PS，或者叫个人陈述（Personal Statement），是申请欧美国家大学的必备材料之一，其重要性不亚于许多可量化的标准，如TOEFL、IELTS、GRE等考试成绩和国内在校成绩（GPA、会考成绩单等）。要写好一篇PS，首先需要清楚了解它的概念。其实PS已经不简单地是personal statement的缩写，现在更多的欧美学校愿意把它叫做Statement of Purpose（意图陈述），或者更具体地叫做Statement of Intent & Objectives，即意向及目标陈述，其中意向部分又可以分为个人优势陈述和选择该校和该专业的原因。

To realize one’s full potential is the provenance of one’s splendid career. This is what I believe, and this is why I have been the lucky for I have chosen English as my major in college, which made me a top student in the English Department of Changchun Institute of Technology, China. During my college years, I learnt English harder than any other student in the department, drenching myself in English everyday as often as I could. From a freshman to a junior, I won three consecutive scholarships with the last year working part-time at New Oriental School, the nationally renowned English-training centre, teaching English. I won countless awards and prizes in English speech and debate contests, among which the third award in the national English debate contest constitutes the most memorable trophy for me. As for the English debate and speech and other similar contests held within the college, I was always a monopolistic winner. Furthermore, as a pragmatist, I seized every opportunity of interpretation practice, working as a volunteer interpreter at the ISU World Cup Short Track Contest, which was held in the city of Changchun, a north-eastern provincial capital of China. Thanks to this and similar sorts of practice of interpretation in real life situations, I successfully passed the Advanced Interpretation Examination of Shanghai Foreign Languages University, and was conferred on an Advanced Interpretation Certificate.
